Rescues I & II this upcoming weekend
June 23rd, 2009This upcoming weekend looks like a the perfect weekend for practicing rescues: Warm air temps, warm water temps, and no rain!! And yes, it is not a secret, we loooooove to teach rescues … it is one of our favorite classes to both attend and to teach.
This year we split up our rescue class in two classes, Rescues I and Rescues II, and expanded them to 2.5 to 3 hours since we felt 1.5 hours was just not enough time.
Rescues I:
Rescues I will cover the basic rescues such as wet exit, T-rescue, cowboy rescue and is a great class to get introduced to the world of assisted, and self rescues.
Rescues II:
If you participate in our new 3-hour Rescues II class, we assume you have a fluent T-Rescue, and you know already what a eskimo rescue is. Rescues II starts on land with an introduction
- to the possible problems you may encounter in a real life rescue (hyperthermia etc.),
- choosing the right rescue strategy,
- options you can choose from as a rescuer,
- etc.
Apart from practicing a variety of rescues, the on the water part of Rescues II will include towing, and drift stopping tows during a rescue.
See you on the water this weekend … and yes, I know, it’s a cliche, but we say it anyway: Be prepared to get wet!!
