Manhattan CircumnavigationO.K., ready for the big one? Welcome to a 2,000 calorie fueled circle line style tour of Manhattan. Don't tell us we didn't warn you-this one is hard. If you haven't paddled with us before, you will need to come on a shorter tour and convince us that you can handle this.
The tour heads south towards and past the Battery, swings north past South Street Seaport using the awesome currents of the East River (they make the Hudson look weak) to Mill Rock, where the first of two fleetingly short breaks permits some recuperation.
Then launch again and push towards the Harlem River for the long haul. Once the pain begins we stop for lunch at the Columbia boat launch. Refueled and ready, the tour swings back into the Hudson for the home stretch, a seven-mile finish.
Hold your head high when you walk away from this one. But watch out-later that evening you will find yourself saying, "it wasn't so hard." If you believe yourself, make sure to come on the Halloween Circumnavigation, complete with costume, and do the whole trip backwards.
