Learn the Basics: The 3-Class Launchpad to a Lifetime of Adventure

Get into the elements. This 3-class series is the launchpad for everything we do—it’s the foundation to kayak on open water with skill and confidence. Beyond the full-body exercise, you’re building the technique to reach new places, find fresh air and sunshine, and join a community of kindred spirits on the water.

How it works: Purchase once to receive 3 credits. Classes go in 1 → 2 → 3 order and can be scheduled through October 2026.

The 3-Class Progression

Kayak Basics 1

Ergonomics & Kinetic Reset (2.5 Hours)

  • Configure your gear and the kayak so your body can transfer power to the boat.
  • Learn to plant your blade and lever past it, rather than trying to pull or push.
  • Build muscle memory through our land-to-water stroke progression.

Kayak Basics 2

Balance & Alignment (2.5 Hours)

  • Discover strokes for control and stability to keep a straight course.
  • Get coached through rescues to replace hesitation with confidence.
  • Master your forward strokes using hip rotation.

Kayak Basics 3

River Fundamentals (2.5 Hours)

  • Learn to interpret marine forecasts and river currents to make go/no-go decisions.
  • Enjoy a graduation paddle on the open water.
  • You’re now an intermediate paddler. The river is open—join us for 2 to 10-mile expeditions to new horizons.

What's Beyond the Basics

“Kayaking across that booming channel,
underneath the Verrazzano Bridge,
past the Statue of Liberty in the snow…
it makes me feel timeless.

Everything goes away.
I’m part of history somehow.

Circling Manhattan by the full moon…
that’s where you can touch the history.”
